Pricing Information – Newborns

Thank you for enquiring with Natasha Megan Photography for the amazing and rewarding job of photographing your new little love in their first few days of life.

This guide aims to provide you with detailed information on the different types of newborn sessions offered and associated pricing, along with some tips for styling and preparing for your session.

I know you had unlimited options when it came to choosing a photographer who suited your needs, so it means the world that you considered Natasha Megan Photography to capture this special chapter in your lives.

To secure your session with Natasha Megan Photography the $200 session fee is due upon booking. Your session fee covers your studio session, allowing up to 3 hours and includes use of my client wardrobe,  prop collection and pre/post session consultation via email or phone as required.

I only book a limited number of “due dates” per month, this is to ensure availability with the first weeks of your baby’s arrival and ensure the highest quality of product and service to you. For this reason, it is highly recommended that you book your newborn photography session as early as your second trimester to avoid missing out.

In 2013 when I launched Natasha Megan Photography I knew it was going to be essential to have the PERFECT space to host my newborn sessions. A place where mums & dads can come with their new little baby & feel comfortable and safe. A place that has everything we need to make the day as comfy and efficient as possible.

My well equipt home studio has been set up specifically for newborn photography. It is heated according to the time of year. I do keep it warm in the studio at around 28-30 degrees which is purely for bubs sake – they like it toasty. The womb is around 36 degrees so for those unclothed/unswaddled photos we must keep it warm in order for your baby to be completely comfortable as they cant regulate their own body temperature.

    1. Dummy (even if they don’t use one at home, it can be really helpful to settle a baby purely for photos)
    2. Spare nappies.
    3. Extra formula and bottles (if bottle fed)
    4. Drinks, lunch and snacks

Photographing the connection between you and your baby is one of my all time favourite things, and always creates the most beautiful images.

Wearing neutral/earthy tones ensures the focus of your image is on you and your beautiful family, and not being distracted by bold bright patterns. Be sure that you have no bright/dark nail polish as your hands will make their way into the images.

Mums: I do have a range of loose flowy dresses available in my client wardrobe for you to borrow for your session if needed.

Including older brother/sister(s) in your newborn’s portraits is the perfect way to document this fleeting time in your lives.

Just as with the parents outfits, think neutrals and texture!

Sister(s): A snug fitting tank, soft textured top, or a dress in a neutral colour (I do have a small range of dresses available in my client wardrobe). I ask that girls hair be natural and free of large colourful bows, headbands, etc. Just as with mum, no nail polish please.

Brother(s): A snug pair of jeans or chinos and a simple linen shirt are preferred, please take a few moments to chat with your guy about this so he feels prepared for the session — though if he prefers, a fitted white/grey t-shirt is fine.

If siblings will be joining you for the session please feel free to bring some quiet toys, a colouring in book or other quiet activity, and some snacks to help them pass the time! Please keep in mind we want the session to be as calm and relaxing as possible to help baby settle! Unfortunately this can be hard to achieve with energetic toddlers around 😉 We will aim as best we can to work the session around your family, however sometimes it can work best to start with a couple of wrapped family and sibling poses and then have Dad take the older children to the park or the beach for a visit while we achieve those sleepy baby only poses. Sibling photos can be quite the challenge, especially if big sibling is 24 months or younger. I do everything in my power to get siblings to cooperate, whether its games, singing, animal noises or bribes… rest assured I rarely fail in my sibling photos!

Preparing for the session helps to give us the best chance of a sleepy content baby for the most relaxing session for parents and resulting in the best possible photos.

Please feed baby 2-3 hours prior, and plan the next feed for when you arrive at the session.

Where possible, try to give them some awake time prior to the session – try giving them a bath, let them kick with only a nappy, tickle their toes and try not to let them sleep for at least the hour before you arrive. (I can’t stress that it’s so important to do your best to keep them awake. Many parents come in saying “baby has been sleeping all morning, but trust me, they sleep SO good this time of day!” only to have baby wake up, since they will be unclothed and unswaddled!)

It will be at least 28 degrees in the studio. Due to this, I am dressed for a warm few hours and suggest you do too!

Sessions can last between 1-3 hours, sometimes longer if baby is a light sleeper, or is hungry! The easiest way to ensure a sleepy baby is the willingness to nurse/bottle feed off and on. (bringing along a bottle of formula/expressed milk can be really helpful for me to be able to settle him/her during the session if needed). If you can, bring along a dummy if you use one, even if you haven’t used one, just for the 2 hours that I’m posing him/her usually really helps. However if you really prefer that we don’t use one, that’s fine as well!

Once you arrive, get settled and feed baby, then its straight into photos.

If you have young children we will aim to do the sibling/family photos first. They can get a bit bored in the studio, this allows dad to take them for a drive, a walk or even home (if you live close) whilst we focus on baby.

I will generally aim to send you a sneak peek from your session within 24-48 hours.

Within the week following your session, you will get to view your raw and unedited images in a private online gallery. Here you can make your digital images selection based on which package you chose. You can upgrade your gallery at anytime or add additional images to your package.

I will then spend the next 2-3 weeks editing and putting the finishing touches on your images. This includes exposure edits, colour edits, skin retouching etc.. Your finished gallery will then be ready for digital download.

(If you have chosen the Big Love package, it is at this point that I will also order your print package. It will usually be available for collection within an additional 1-2 weeks).

I know you had unlimited options when it came to choosing a photographer. It means the world that you have considered me to document these memories for you. To get in touch and book your session, please use the contact form below.
